Let’s get to calculating starting from year 0:
Reading from Genesis 1:27, we see that Adam was created - that would be year 0.
When Adam was 130, Seth was born (Gen 5:3). So now we are at year 130.
Enos was born when Seth was 105 (Gen 5:6) so we are at year 235.
When Enos was 90 Cainan was born (Gen 5:9) and when Cainan was 70 his son Mahalaleel was born (Gen 5:12). Now we are in year 395.
When Mahalaleel was 65 Jared was born (Gen 5:15) and when Jared was 162 Enoch was born (Gen 5:18). Now we are at year 622.
When Methuselah was born Enoch was 65 (Gen 5:21) and when Methuselah was 187 Lamech was born (Gen 5:25). When Lamech turned 182 Noah was born (Gen 5:28).
With these calculations we are now at year 1056. This means Noah was born in the year 1056 since God created the first man called ‘Adam’ on the Earth! Let’s carry on with our calculations from the year 1056:
The flood came when Noah was 600. So the flood came in 1656 (Gen 7:6).
We know that 2 years after the flood Arphaxad was born (Gen 11:10).
We are now in the year 1658 when Arphaxad was born to Shem! The Bible is extremely precise. Genesis 11 now gives us the Genealogy (Generations) of Shem in precise detail:
"When Arphaxad had lived 35 years he became the father of Salah." (Gen 11:12)
"When Salah had lived 30 years he became the father of Eber." (Gen 11:14)
"When Eber had lived 34 years he became the father of Peleg." (Gen 11:16)
"When Peleg had lived 30 years he became the father of Reu." (Gen 11:18)
"When Reu had lived 32 years he became the father of Serug." (Gen 11:20)
"When Serug had lived 30 years he became the father of Nahor." (Gen 11:22)
"When Nahor had lived 29 years he became the father of Terah." (Gen 11:24)
"After Terah had lived 70 years he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran." (Gen 11:26)
Let's add these ages together:
35 (Arphaxad) + 30 (Salah) + 34 (Eber) + 30 (Peleg) + 32 (Reu) + 30 (Serug) + 29 (Nahor) + 70 (Terah) = 290 years.
So now we add that to year 1658 that brings us to year 1948. Abraham was born in the year 1948 after the creation of man! Let’s continue our calculations:
We know that Abraham was made the promise when he was 75 (Gen 12:4).
According to Galatians 3:16-17, the tablets of law received unto Moses to teach unto the Israelites were given 430 years after the promise to Abraham (This is further confirmed in Exodus 12:40 which outlines how long the Israelites were in Egypt before the exodus).
Let’s calculate this together:
1948 + 75 + 430 = 2453
So we are now in the year 2453 when the exodus of the Israelites occurred! Let’s continue with our calculations:
Does that mean we have a maximum of roughly 25 years left?
I think that's a brilliant question. No one knows the day or the hour but God. He said we would know by the signs. Think of this more as a generalised timeframe. It's important to remember that some days, months, years are longer than others. I would say the margin is roughly +/- 5 years. Thanks for the question!
