You will notice that the physical brain of a man is not superior – in terms of physical structure – to that of the animals. In fact, some animals have brains that are larger than that of man, and yet man is far more intelligent than the animals! That is so because of the “spirit of man” which is in him! It is through the “spirit of man” that God inspires and imparts physical knowledge to the man! The physical brain gathers information by our five senses, and then through interaction with the spirit of man, the mind (physical brain plus spirit of man) begins to understand that information.

But man needs another spirit if he is to understand spiritual things! He needs the Spirit of God if he is to understand “the things of God”! Christ said to His disciples: “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he (the Holy Spirit) shall teach you all things” (John 14:26).

At Christ’s return, the majority of mankind will be offered the Holy Spirit of God. At that time, the earth will be filled with the knowledge of God (Isaiah 11:9) and the law of God will be central to administering God’s government on the earth.

“And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain (Kingdom) of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem” (Isaiah 2:3). The prophecy continues in verse four (Isaiah 2:4): “And he (Christ) shall judge among the nations and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore”. Yes, peace will finally fill the earth, but that will only happen at the establishment of God’s Kingdom here on earth under the rulership of Christ.

I have found that there is much confusion about what the text in 2 Timothy 3:3 is saying. Every man has his own interpretation, and the result is nothing but confusion.

You will remember that earlier on I quoted from 2 Peter 1:20 in which we read: “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” Therefore, let us examine this passage of scripture with the view of allowing the Bible to interpret the Bible.

In 2 Timothy 3:1-3 we read: “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection ...”. What is that verse of scripture really saying when it says: “without natural affection”? Notice first that this is a prophecy for “the last days”.

Most wrongly assume that this scripture is saying: that men will be “without affection”. But there is a difference! Notice that men are “without natural affection” and not simply: “without affection”. The word: “natural” makes all the difference here.

These people have a kind of affection: but it is unnatural or - that affection goes against nature.

We read the same thing in Romans 1:31. In Romans chapter one and verse thirty-one we read that men will be: “without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection …”. Notice again the words “without natural affection”. The question is: what is that “un-natural” affection? The answer is found in verses twenty-six and twenty-seven (Romans 1:26-27).
